Printing


Generally, our process is a WYSIWYG process and your artwork will reproduce exactly as it is represented in your digital file. However, most people have their primary experience with printed images on opaque (typically white) backgrounds such as printing on paper or vinyl. 

     MAXIMUM GLASS WIDTH THAT WILL FIT INSIDE THE MACHINE IS 64.25". 
     MAXIMUM PRINTING WIDTH IS 63"

SINCE WE WILL PRINT YOUR PROJECT ONTO GLASS, CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:

1.      Layering:  We can print colors with white dropped out, or colors layered over a full bleed white or a spot white background. For spot white, color separated artwork is required for the areas that you desire to have white behind (or sandwiched between) the color image.

a.            Ex: You have an image of a dog in a landscape. You want the landscape to be translucent colors but the dog to be opaque. A separate layer mask of the dog representing the area that is to be a white underlayer must accompany the original artwork.

b.            If the project is to be viewed from two sides, a color layer – white layer – color layer sandwich (CWC Sandwich) MUST be indicated in your order correspondence.

2.       White Background:  White behind the colors produces the most vivid and noticeable results.

a.            This is especially true for back lit images

b.            In addition to printing with a white layer, we can print on several varieties of white glass, flashed opal glass, white PVB laminated glass and white back painted glass.

c.            IF NO WHITE is to be printed (or if spot white is to be utilized), SPECIFY TO DROP OUT THE WHITE IN THE MAIN IMAGE. Only the colors or colors and spot white will print. Areas that were white will be clear. Tonal areas and gradients will print any color PPI as DPI.

3.       Orientation:  We can print on either side or both sides of a lite of glass. For two sided printing we can align with perfect registration of the mirror image.

a.            You MUST SPECIFY which surface the printing is to be done.

                                                               i.      Ex: If you want to view the image through the glass, specify Second Surface printing. If there is writing or if the image is to be viewed in a specific aspect through the glass, REVERSE the image.

                                                              ii.      Note: If there is writing and we can read it on our computer screen, we will assume that you want it printed on the first (front) surface and not viewed through the glass.

b.            Ex: { 3.2mm clear + image + .030” PVB + 6mm White Ivory; view image through clear. }   Note: you must provide a reversed image that gives the proper orientation you desire when looking through the glass!

4.       Resolution:  Maximum resolution is 1440 dpi x 1440 dpi. View your image at full scale to see how the resolution will print. Printer-ready artwork must be rendered to exact size, and should have the resolution desired for the scale of the printed part.

5.       Graphics Correction:  GrayGlass does not employ a Graphic Artist. Any work required to bring artwork up to camera ready quality will be billed at $100.00 per hour.

6.       File Types:  Preferable file types are Adobe Illustrator or similar Vector based files. Also acceptable are Pixel based files such as Adobe Photoshop or similar. USE THE HIGHEST RESOLUTION POSSIBLE. Start with a high resolution image or artwork.
